the green island: Ireland

Publié le par Matthieu

Last trip out of France for the pregnant wife and myself. Ireland it is. David agreed to guide around and drive (a lot actually) endless hours on the windy roads of his beautiful country.

From the stunning wilderness of the Cliffs of Moher or Killarney National Park, through the quiet sunny beaches of Ballybunnion to the crazy Guinness-filled Temple Bar district of old Dublin, we had ten days to relax, enjoy and discover how those people live and laugh, how public houses are like a religion and so forth.

The landscape, with its loughs (lakes), its sheep, cattle, was breath-taking even if Caroline had some bad motion-sickness moments. The narrow roads, livestock crossings, tractors where a delight for our hairy driver Dave. We were too broke to go for the real salmon-based main course and opted for a really good fish-and-chips from our guest' sister's shop. Spicy as I like it, greasy as needed when in such cold climate. Actually we were quite lucky with the climate, sun and heatwaves coming straight from the Caribbean illuminating our stay until our arrival in Dublin where it poured rain the whole Saturday. But Sunday was... dry I would say... windy and cold and grey but rainless.

We had to go and walk around Temple Bar. We did. But not being huge fans of Guinness or any beer, we were quite unhappy. But, considering someone has money, time and a longing for female company and loud music and tourists and junk food and taxi drive back to the hostel, it is the place to be in Dublin I guess.

Pictures of our trip on Caroline's FB page.

See you guys soon.
